About

Canadian-based and led, Agnico Eagle was founded in 1957 and is now Canada’s largest mining company and the second largest gold producer in the world. Our mission is to build a high-quality, easy to understand business that generates superior long-term returns for our shareholders, creates a great place to work for our employees and contributes positively to the communities in which we operate. Our strategy is to build a growing high-quality, low-risk, sustainable business. We take a regional focus to our business, operating in regions we believe have the geologic potential and the political stability to operate multiple mines for multiple decades.

We produce gold, silver, copper and zinc from operations in Canada, Australia, Finland and Mexico, and have a pipeline of high-quality exploration and development projects.

At Agnico Eagle we are defined by our core values of Family, Trust, Respect, Responsibility and Equity. These values express who we are and guide us in everything we do. They reflect our roots, are central to our culture and essential to our success. As a result, we are a partner of choice within the mining industry, recognised globally for our leading sustainability practices. We are proud of the prosperity we bring to our employees, their families and the communities in which we operate. Everywhere we operate, we are determined to make mining work for all stakeholders by being reliable and honouring our commitments, building trust, sharing opportunities, innovating and by operating with respect for others.

Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Performance Summary

Agnico Eagle started implementing TSM in 2011 and applies TSM's Canadian protocols across all eleven (11) of its operating mines globally while striving to improve overall performance annually. Each site has dedicated personnel who implement and monitor the TSM protocols and strive for continuous improvement. Agnico Eagle’s TSM performance drives a part of its overall approach to sustainability. TSM requirements are integrated into the Company’s Risk Management and Monitoring System (RMMS) that also encompasses other international standards and frameworks, such as:

  • The World Gold Council’s Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMP);

  • The International Cyanide Management Institute’s International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC); and

  • The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR).

Agnico Eagle has used the TSM Responsible Sourcing Alignment Supplement since 2023 to integrate the RGMP requirements in its overall annual TSM assessment and external verification.

2025 Performance Assessment

Four (4) of Agnico Eagle’s eleven (11) operations were externally verified in 2025: Meliadine, Detour, Macassa and Fosterville. This year is the first year that Detour, Macassa and Fosterville were externally verified against the requirements of TSM's Canadian protocols, and the scores achieved reflect Agnico Eagle’s commitments to sustainability performance and continuous improvement. Performance scores in the Indigenous and Community Relations and Tailings Management protocols are especially noteworthy.

In May 2024 Agnico Eagle and the Dja Dja Wurrung People signed an Historical Agreement at Fosterville, called  Bakaru wayaparrangu ("in the middle, we all meet"). This agreement, the first of its kind in Victoria, Australia, aims to foster a long-term relationship based on trust and collaboration.
